This is a typical setup that I will use for herp and macro photography.

This is my current camera. If you want an unbiased review
of it don't ask me. I absolutely love the camera. Its solid steel
construction, exceptional image clarity and proffesional functions made
it Canon's flagship pro-sumer camera when it came out in 2004. I don't
think they have produced a camera in its class as good since (except for maybe
the G7).

This piece of equipment was purchased after viewing Marc Plonsky's website and set up that he used with the Canon G series bodies to produce some exceptional macro photography work. I highly recommend you check out his webpage. I use the setup to position my flash off the camera body or right up next to the lens for fine macro work. It also serves as a very expensive camera handle.

This Hitachi 4gb Microdrive was given to me by my brother in law when it failed to work properly with his Canon 10d. It is my work horse storage card and has never had any compatability issues with my Pro-1. I also carry a few 128mb flash cards as backup.

I found out early on that the trips I like to take make charging up on the go difficult. Instead of messing with a car charger, which I carry just in case, I stock up on previously charged batteries. I buy the aftermarket BP-511. They seem to work exactly the same as the Canon batteries that are 4 times the cost.

Stofen Omnibounce Flash Diffuser |
|
I almost never use the 380ex without this Stofen-Omnibounce flash diffuser. The light is much softer when I use it even though it is still very directional. Sometimes I hold this diffuser over the pop up flash that is built into my Pro-1 as a shortcut when I don't want to put together my entire set up.

I found this little speedlight on Ebay, where I get most of my equipment. It works well with my set up. Its not as powerful as the more recent models but has plenty of puch for the type of photography I do.

This is Canon's off camera shoe cord 2. It allows me to place the flash in various positions other than the top of the camera.

I use this set of Hoya Diopters, or close-up lenses to increase the macro capabilities of my camera. They also allow me to get tighter images of venemous snakes without forcing my to get uncomfortably close. They have preformed really well, but they will show some aberations if you stack

Past Equipment-Canon Powershot G2 |
|
The G2 was my first digital camera. I remember researching for a long time and deciding that this camera was the best I could afford. In retrospect, it was an excellent choice. The camera took incredibly sharp images and was loaded with functions. However, in the end I needed more resolution. I include it here under my equipment because many older shots in my collection were actually taken with this camera.
